Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny were among the most listened to artists on Spotify in 2022, with the Puerto Rican rap star winning out as most popular artist globally and in Houston.
Getty ImagesSpotify has released Wrapped data for cities this year and the results for Houston may surprise you. According to the music platform, Bayou City listeners streamed singer song-writer Bad Bunny the most in 2022. The Puerto Rican megastar —whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio—is also the most-streamed artist in the world on Spotify in 2022, his third year in a row. It's the first time an artist has ever accomplished the feat.
Trailing just behind Ocasio for Houston's Top Artists of 2022 on the music platform is Drake in second place, Taylor Swift in third, The Weeknd in fourth, and Kanye West in fifth. Noticeably missing from the list are some of Houston's best-known artists who released projects this year, including Beyoncé, Megan Thee Stallion and Lizzo. Unsurprisingly, Houston's top genre of 2022 on Spotify was Rap, followed by Pop, Hip-Hop, Trap, and Pop-rap.
Additionally, Bad Bunny also made up four of the top five songs streamed in Houston in 2022, with his track "Me Porto Bonito" featuring Chencho Corleone of former reggaeton duo Plan B topping the list. The second most-streamed song was "As It Was" by British pop star Harry Styles, followed by Bad Bunny's "Tití Me Preguntó" in third, "Efecto" in fourth, and "Moscow Mule" in fifth. The four tracks were featured in Bad Bunny's latest album "Un Verano Sin Ti," which took the top spot for Spotify's most-streamed album globally for 2022.
Bad Bunny last performed in Houston in September for his two sold-out concerts at Minute Maid Park for his "World's Hottest Tour."
Topping Spotify's Wrapped lists is just the latest accomplishment this year for Bad Bunny. He recently made history when his fourth solo studio album "Un Verano Sin Ti," which translates to "A Summer Without You," was nominated for album of the year at the upcoming 65th Annual Grammy Awards, a first for an album completely in Spanish. Earlier this week, the album was named TIME Magazine's Best Album of 2022. Similarly, TIME named his mega-hit "Tití Me Preguntó" the best song of 2022. Earlier this year, Bad Bunny became the first non-English speaking singer to win the MTV VMA Award for Artist of the Year
