It is not that easy to braze this type of joint. Brazing works best if you have only a very small gap and a large contact surface. The welding I did on the sphere was MIG welding and I think you could do it after just one hour practice. But you need a welding machine and someone who knows how to set up the machine.
I just used my hands (with gloves) to finish the surface. I use the cement quite wet and do not let it dry first. I just very gently and slowly move my hand over the surface. Imagine that you are putting something on the skin of a baby when you are applying the final layer.
The rocks are quite sturdy. If you make sure that you use the chicken wire and cover the styrofoam with a total thickness of at least 1 inch of cement and give it some weeks to get fully cured, I think that the goats can climb on it. Eventually you could also decide to make the layer of cement a bit thicker.
View Instructable »The black powder is specific to be used with cement. If you google "sakrete mortelkleurstof" you see the product that I used. I think this brand is specific for The Netherlands but other countries should have something similar.Sakrete is the name of the company that made it. Mortel = cementKleurstof = pigment

For some reason I did not see your comment when you posted it. So I am sorry that I respond only now. It is a very good remark that you made about the unleaded fuel. The Healey has been running on unleaded fuel for many years before we did this rebuild, so we did not really pay attention to it. But you are right that it is important. May I ask your advise: if we add an additive as lead replacement, should that be added every time that we fill up the fuel tank or only every now and then? Also I read about the valve seats that could still be saturated with lead, but I assume that this lead will no longer really be there because the machine shop machined the seats. Correct?I am also interested in what exactly happens with the cast iron. The temperature of the gasses with unleaded fuel is high…

I expect that the entire car will be ready within one or two months from now. It has been resprayed and all individual components have been restored. The interior still has to be installed. The photo shows how far it is now. I plan to make an Instructable about the restauration of the entire car after it is ready.

The weather was lovely indeed. Funny detail: when I wanted to take the photo with the workbench in the back of the car, there was too much sunshine so the workbench was in the shade and not really visible. There were some clouds so I decided to wait until a cloud would reduce the sun light a bit. But all clouds passed left or right of the sun. After half an hour I went inside and waited until the evening when the sun was not so bright anymore and then I took the photo.

Thank you. If you made this look on something I would love to see a photo of it.
When I made the Instructable I tried to find out the price at home depot, but their website is not accessible from The Netherlands. I am happy that you mention their price because it confirms what I thought. I had seen some YouTube videos where people make workbenches out of eight to ten 2x4s and they say their total costs are around 50 dollars.Indeed prices will increase even further. So let me know when you are selling 2x4s in The Netherlands :-)
Thanks for the idea.

I used a thin tape, but I think the thicker type will work fine as well.

Nice video. I have never seen that rainforest before and it is great that the birds there are moving. Thanks for your comments.

Thank you for this additional information. I did not know how it was done as the Mini engine was already in the car before my friend bought the car.
Thanks for sharing your experiences. The positive ground is indeed something which feels odd. I also removed all the cables for the full body respray, but they do not look bad, so we plan to reuse them. I will probably make another Instructable about the restoration of the car itself when that is ready. Hopefully within a few months.

The horizontal slots have no purpose. I reused an old piece of plywood and the slots were already there.
