They could, but they may not be as strong, or look as good 😁 One could also just buy drawers from the store or go the extra distance and hand cut dovetails. Lots of options
Thank you very much 😁
Thank you very much 😁 The biggest reason I use the impact driver is because it is convenient. I use the drill to drill the pilot hole and the driver to screw in the screw. Then I don't have to switch bits on the drill. Also, I've personally never had any luck with the clutch on my drills (probably user error 😂) From my understanding, dado stacks are illegal because the regulations require a spinning blade to stop within a certain time frame once power is shut off. (Which helps to prevent injuries) with a dado stack attached to the saw, the manufacturer cannot make the blade stop spinning fast enough.
View Instructable »I did mention that in the article and gave alternative ways of making finger joints (router or multiple passes with a single blade)

Thanks Jessy! It took way longer than I expected, especially the clamping as I never have enough clamps! Lol

Thank you! It is nice to meet another person that can appreciate the Shopsmith! I have considered making a tool, but I was having fun getting away with the tools at my disposal. If I make some more I will sharpen up screwdriver or two, lol!I have yet to see one break either, but I could see it happening if the ring was too thin. (but then again if the ring was too thin, I wouldn't give it to a baby...) Better to give people a warning just in case they have not thought it through. The 2" ones I made were a bit big, the maple stock I had was smaller and it worked out much nicer (but I didn't film that one)

Thanks Peter! You should get into it, wood is much softer than metal so you should have no problem picking it up :)

Thanks seamster! I watched it three times before being able to go out to the garage (while holding a sleeping newborn) and I really feel like it helped my understanding of the tool. I had used it a bit before that and it was scary😂😂 good luck with the skew ☺️☺️

Haha thanks Jake! I wonder if there is any way to show someone something that was made in the past and still exists in the present... Hmm maybe one day someone can invent a picture taking device or something 😂😂

Thanks so much! I looked into the ikea route (because why re-invent the wheel right?) and nothing seemed to line up the way I wanted. But if I did it again, I would heavily consider it (especially after making 24 box jointed drawers, lol) I am sure a Makerneer closet is going to be quite over-engineered!

Hi Leslie, Great questions. Regarding the thread, I don't know what the material is. The thread came with a leather crafting starter kit that I bought on Amazon and all it says in the description is "waxed thread". I am guessing it is waxed linen, but I could be wrong. The stitching I did here used a needle on both ends of the thread, so no need to tie a knot (until you have completed the stitching) To get the needle through the thread you just poke it between strands of the thread. I do it this way because it is quick, I do not know if there are any other benefits. Hope this reply helps, let me know. :)

Thanks so much! Different wood show the joints differently. Some wood it is very difficult to see. The pine I used has very thick looking grain so it is easy to see the different layers. I would suggest trying something like maple and it might turn out nicer. I also used titebond 3 glue, and it dries a bit darker than some other glues, so you could try a different glue as well. Good luck!
Thanks Dimitri! We all have the things we love, and the things we don't! lol. I actually find that after hand sanding for a while I get cramps in my hands (or maybe it is early onset arthritis?) so maybe that is why I don't like it that much! lol
Thanks so much! I love the car too! I have had it for 7 years now and I hope to keep it for at least 7 more!

I have seen some similar looking ones on motorcycles, so I think you can make it work. Good luck!

Thanks so much Jessy! It was a fun project and more steps than I thought it would be, that's why it took so long to post. Seeing him play with the car brings a big smile to my face. Next step is to make a canoe to go on the top and a replica of our trailer 😊
